Lucas Di Grassi, from São Paulo, is the most successful Brazilian driver of the decade, collecting victories, titles and international public recognition. He is also the biggest name in the history of the Formula E World Championship, adding a title, two runners-up and two third places, in addition to being the record holder for podiums (32). In 2015 he was named the best endurance driver and also the best Formula E competitor in the world.

Formula E world champion in 2017, Lucas is the main driver in the history of this category. He was also the best in the world in Formula 3 (2005), runner-up in the World Endurance Championship (2016) and the best Brazilian in the 24 Hours of Le Mans at all times - with three podium finishes. From 2005 to 2011, the Brazilian was involved in Formula 1 in several ways, either as an official driver (Virgin Racing), a test driver (Renault and Pirelli) or a reserve driver (Renault).

since childhood

1988

Little Lucas' predilections suggested to his parents that he would like to play with a race car. Here, at the age of four, he accelerates his first Formula.

1989

A year later, the youngster's “career” migrated to Tourism cars. But nothing to indicate what was to come.

2000

From 1997 to 2000, Lucas would compete in several kart races, winning, among other feats, the then competitive Pan American Championship.

2002

Runner-up, Di Grassi shone in the Brazilian Formula Renault Championship, a tournament that revealed several of the main stars of national motorsport.

2003

With another runner-up, this time in South American Formula 3, Lucas was getting ready to start his career in Europe, the world center of the sport.

2004

In his first full season in the international F-3, Di Grassi stood out with a podium (third place) at the Macau GP, a competition that would come to be considered the World Championship in the category.

2005

Considered by many to be the most difficult track in the world, Macau saw Lucas become world champion by winning the traditional and coveted Grand Prix held there.

Lucas also won 3rd place in the English F-3 Championship and his talent was already drawing attention, to the point of being invited to test an F-1 car.

2006

Between 2006 and 2009, Lucas was twice third and once runner-up in GP2 (currently Formula 2), in addition to being a test driver and third driver of the Renault F-1 team.

2010

Di Grassi fulfilled his dream of competing in F-1 in 2010, for the Virgin Racing team. But the car was too bad: “When we were doing very well, we were in 14th. We were never competitive, ”he says.

2011

In a kind of “gap year”, Lucas remained as a Formula test driver for the category's official tire supplier, Pirelli.

2012

While still testing for Pirelli, Di Grassi was invited by Audi to compete in the WEC Interlagos 6 Hours. Third place in the debut, Lucas is the main name of the factory to this day.

2013

The following year Di Grassi helped Audi win the runner-up in the 12 Hours of Sebring and also third place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the most important race in the world.

2014

Di Grassi was fourth in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and runner-up in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, always by Audi.

2015

Fourth in the WEC, Lucas was third in the debut of the Formula E World Championship, also winning the first race in the history of the category, in China.

2016

With the runner-up, Lucas had his best year in the World Endurance Championship, with another podium at Le Mans - where he remains the most successful Brazilian in history.

2017

The consecration in the Formula E World Championship came this season, with Lucas winning his first title and establishing himself as the main name of the competition until today.

It was also the year that Lucas won one of his several Golden Helmets, an award considered the Oscar of motorsport. He won the honor in 2007, 2008, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. He was also a Silver Helmet in 2015 and a Bronze Helmet in 2010. In 2017, he also received the Senna Special Helmet and the Sid Mosca Special Helmet.

In another spectacular year, despite his car problems, Lucas won the world runner-up in the F-E, as well as becoming the second best rookie in the history of the Stock Car, even running simultaneously in the F-E.

This year, Di Grassi won seven consecutive podium finishes at the Formula E World Championship, which helped him to keep the record in this category.

2019

Di Grassi again played a leading role in the competitive F-E World Championship, ending the season in third place.

2020

With the car yielding little and Audi about to announce its departure from the F-E, a fact that will materialize in 2021, Lucas ended the year in sixth during an atypical season.
