Car gets to the finish in Mexico and Lucas sprints back in a recovery race

Team works on the e-tron FE04 to fix problem and Di Grassi starts last in thrilling race


Lucas Di Grassi finished the ePrix of Mexico already making plans for the next stage in Punta Del Este (Uruguay), when the Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler team finally will be able to apply in the e-tron model FE04 the solution that should definitely prevent the chronic problems which have been preventing the Brazilian from finishing the races. In the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, this Saturday (3), Lucas was forced to start in the last position due to the imposition of a penalty that made him lose ten places on the grid – precisely because the team was forced to fix the converter of the electric system. In a rather laborious race, as he had predicted, the Brazilian made a thrilling recovery race that still earned him the extra point for the fastest lap of the stage.

Lucas even drove in second position on the 24th lap when the leaders stopped for the car exchange pit stop. Di Grassi took advantage of the fact that he had saved power and went for an extra lap in a strategy that could have surprised several competitors. But the Audi Sport’s ABT Schaeffler driver still had to suffer a five-second penalty in the pit stop, also related to the repair that the team was forced to do to fix the converter between the Santiago and Mexico races. That made Lucas loose five positions, but even with this disadvantage the Brazilian was able to finished ninth.”The race was very exciting,” said Lucas. “Congratulations to my teammate, Daniel, who won his first race on F-E. As a team, we never give up and our season really starts now, in Mexico. Today’s race showed that we will have great moments ahead. I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting us.”The next round of the Formula E World Championship is scheduled for March 17 in Punta Del Este, Uruguay street circuit.
