Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler
The only German team on the Formula E grid, ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport has been in the electric car category since its inception in 2014, always relying on Lucas di Grassi in one of their cars. The team is led by Hans-Jürgen Abt, who brings extensive experience in motorsport in categories such as DTM, GTs and Formula 3. The team consists of the Brazilian driver and the young German Daniel Abt – both wear the team overall From the beginning of the category.
The debut of the electric car series could not have been better: in the first race of the category history in Beijing, Lucas di Grassi wrote his name once and for all in the category by becoming his first winner, taking ABT to the top of the podium.
In the second season, the team established a partnership with the German company Schaeffler, which started to develop the entire driving set. The group succeeded with three wins and seven podiums, putting di Grassi as runner-up.
In 2017, the team joined forces with its longtime partner in other categories. Renamed as ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, the German team further tightens ties with the icon of the four rings with the highest technical input, which establishes the team as one of the largest in Formula E.
The long association of Abt with Audi is not only in the sports field. The company, started as a family business, is a European reference in refinement of cars of the line Audi and Volkswagen through Abt Sportsline.
