Under heavy rain and with visibility problems Lucas’ car was hit by a rival right before first corner
The weekend in Interlagos did not end as planned by Lucas Di Grassi, who made his debut in the Brazilian Stock Car Series defending the Hero Motorsport team. After a great result in the qualifying practice for the Doubles Race, in which he partnered Augusto Farfus, the duo faced problems during the opening race of the season and did not get to finish competition.
Di Grassi and Farfus set an excellent second fastest time during the qualifying session on Saturday, a surprising feat for a pair of drivers who are not fully familiar to the Brazilian Stock Car. The start was held under heavy rain, but Lucas had his visibility dramatically impaired by a not working front window defogger, forcing him to take an alternate line on the outside to try to see the braking point. In addition, Di Grassi suffered a touch form a competitor in the first few meters, forcing the Formula E champion to leave the race at the first corner due to a seriously damaged Stock Car.
The next round of Brazilian Stock Car Series is scheduled for April 8 in Curitiba. Prior to that, Lucas will compete in Punta Del Leste, Uruguay, during the sixth round of the Formula E World Championship, to be held on March 17.
